About this session
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) has proliferated across sectors, developers are exploring how such innovations can be integrated into the healthcare system. For mental health services, AI chatbots have been introduced as a tool to combat access issues and deliver more consistent care. While each model’s embodiment of the “right to health” principles varies significantly, all carry the potential for hazardous risk. As profit-allure from this fast-growing industry can take precedent over patient outcomes, many developers are eschewing common sense guardrails like clinician oversight and, in some cases, avoiding connection to the broader care system entirely. Even where there is strong risk mitigation, companies largely ignore the perspectives of the communities they serve, ultimately lacking the insight to secure the right to health it purports to enhance. Investors face key blind spots due to the lack of standard metrics for evaluating AI as well as the varying risk profiles tied to different types of data and uses for that data. This session will explore the risks of the use of technology in health broadly and will take a deeper dive into the impact on mental health.
